In The Oleanders
In late 2020, I took a Photoshop course from the marvelous digital artist Karmen Loh! Her work is so inspiring and certainly raises the bar for portraits.
I was inspired by the spotted, polka dot, or oleander wasp moth. These moth caterpillars just happened to take up residence in one of our flower beds that fall. Typically, they devour oleander plants, but, in our case, they settled for our Mandevilla plants—leaving no leaf undigested.
They proceeded to cocoon for a month or two in wispy, thready, hairy homes before emerging as these glorious, gentle, spotted winged creatures.
Riding the wave of this miracle and switching between Photoshop on my Wacom and Procreate on my iPad Air, I savored working on this digital painting in my spare time.
